Controller
The controller responsible for data processing on this website (ahlers.at, “Erdblick”) and the associated Apple TV and Apple Watch apps is:
P. Ahlers
Email:
This project is run privately and on a non-commercial basis, without advertising, paid offerings or registration.
General
Erdblick shows you environmental and climate projections as well as environment-related news. You can use the website and the app without registering, creating a user account or providing any personal data. No cookies are set, and no analytics or tracking services (e.g. Google Analytics or comparable tools) are used.
Hosting and server log files
This website is hosted by Vercel Inc. Processing (including the execution of server functions and server log files) takes place in a data centre in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). Vercel Inc. itself is headquartered in the USA – access under US legal provisions can therefore not be ruled out completely despite the EU server location. When you visit the website, Vercel automatically processes technical information transmitted by your browser (including IP address, date and time of the request, the page requested, referrer URL, browser and device information) in server log files. This data is used exclusively for technical operation, error analysis and protecting the systems against misuse; it is not combined with other data sources. Details on Vercel’s data protection measures: vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Database
The environmental data, projections and news articles shown are stored in a database at Supabase, whose server location for this project is in Frankfurt am Main (EU). Only the content of the website itself is stored there (projection values, news texts, AI-generated summaries) – no personal user data.
AI-assisted text generation
The short, plain-language “summaries” of the environmental indicators are generated with the help of the Claude API from Anthropic PBC (USA). Only figures that have already been calculated and contain no personal data (e.g. projection values for a selected year/scenario) are transmitted – no data about individual visitors.
In addition, the titles and text excerpts of the news items shown, which come from publicly available sources, are translated, summarised and assigned to a category with the help of the Claude API from Anthropic PBC (USA). Here too, no data about individual visitors is transmitted.
Apple TV and Apple Watch apps
The native “Erdblick” apps for Apple TV (tvOS) and Apple Watch (watchOS) only retrieve the same public programming interfaces of this website described above in order to display projections and news. The apps do not collect any additional data; there is no sign-in and no user account.
The Apple Watch app can show a QR code for a news item. It is generated on the watch and only contains a web address of this website (…/erdblick?news=…). If you open the link on your phone, this policy applies to the visit of the website.
External links
This website contains links to external sites (e.g. to the original articles of the news items, to the App Store and to observer-zero.com). When you click a link, the privacy policy of the respective provider applies; no data is transmitted to them beforehand.
Your rights
In principle, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection under Art. 15–21 GDPR with regard to personal data. For the server log files mentioned above (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest in the secure operation of the website), no additional information that would allow the data to be assigned to a specific person is deliberately stored – there are no user accounts, no cookies and no session IDs. A specific request for access or erasure can therefore not, in practice, be assigned to a particular log entry; under Art. 11 GDPR the rights mentioned do not apply in this case as long as no additional information for identification is available (which is practically impossible for purely technical, anonymous logs).
